Back in the village, in the days of yore, home-ownership had never been a problem in spite of the large and polygamous families. Land was there, so were building materials. Labour was free, because neighbours, friends, relatives and indeed the entire community were ever ready to work; the prospective homeowner only needed to make food and palm wine available.

Saving the Environment

Saving the environment is not an issue anymore. It is a survival truth. Individuals, organizations and governments need to come together and join hands to protect what is left of our planet so that the future is not wiped out before it’s time for curtain call.
The pyramid of life is on very shaky ground. Experts say that proper handling of waste materials, such as reusing or disposing of them properly, should constitute an important part of the our efforts to preserve energy and protect the environment. Countries worldwide should use less coal and more reusable power like hydro or solar power.

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore recently visited the newly completed SM Mall of Asia Solar car-park. The visit came as Gore was in Manila for his three-day Climate Reality Workshop to educate civic leaders on climate change and its solutions. During the workshop, Gore called on Filipinos to end their dependence on coal, and predicted that the Philippines, due to its abundant sunlight, can become one of the world’s first 100% solar-powered economies.

More widespread use of recycled water in California would bring benefits for the environment and human health, according to a new study published online in the American Journal of Public Health.
Researchers at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health compared California’s current water conservation efforts with two other options: banning landscape irrigation and expanding the use of alternative water sources, such as desalination and recycled water.

Two environmental and health organizations on Monday (March 21, 2016) urged the faithful to make their observance of Lent this year litter-free, as well as smoke-free.

Through a joint press release, the EcoWaste Coalition and the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance, Philippines (FCAP) said that preventing litter and smoke during the Holy Week and beyond is good for the health and the environment.

“We appeal to the faithful to aim for zero litter as they recall the passion of Christ, seek forgiveness for past sins and renew their faith through various rites during the Holy Week,” said Aileen Lucero, EcoWaste Coalition coordinator.
