US Unemployment Rate Drops To 4.9%

The final US employment report before the presidential election was released on Friday.

US employers added 161,000 non-farm payrolls in October, which was a bit lighter than the 173,000 expected by economists.

This was driven by the addition of 142,000 private payrolls. Notably, manufacturing payrolls fell by 9,000 during the period.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.9% from 5.0% a month ago. This was largely attributable to the 195,000 Americans that dropped out of the labor force, which brought the labor force participation rate down to 62.8% from 62.9%.

Woman In 'Good Spirits,' After 2 Months Chained Up In Container

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said that Kala Brown, the woman rescued after spending two months chained up inside a metal container, was in good spirits and looked good considering her ordeal.

Wright spoke to reporters as investigators scoured the suspect's 100-acre property in Woodruff, South Carolina in the hopes of finding Brown's boyfriend, Charile Carver, who went missing with Brown back on August 31.

LANSING — A former state prison inmate who fathered a child with a prison counselor while serving time in a Jackson-area prison is suing the Michigan Department of Corrections and state officials, saying he was forced into sex and officials should have known what was happening.

Steven Moerman of Grand Rapids alleges prison counselor Susan Lee Clingerman used him as "a virtual sex slave, demanding sexual gratification at her whim," while he was imprisoned at Parnall Correctional Facility on a drug charge in 2014 and receiving counseling for mental illness.

James Comey, the director of the FBI, sent a vaguely worded letter to Congress, saying the bureau had discovered information related to its previous investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. The information, according to Comey’s letter, came from a separate investigation.

In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigation team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.

On the morning of Oct. 27, her professor handed her back a paper she’d written wrote and announced, in front of the entire class, "This is not your language." At the top of the paper were the words, “Please go back and indicate where you cut and paste,” presumably meaning the professor believed Martínez had plagiarized passages. On the second page, the word "hence" was circled, next to the note, "This is not your word." The word "not" was underlined twice.

After uncovering the stone slab venerated as Jesus Christ's burial place, archaeologists have now examined the interior of the tomb in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

The tomb is a limestone shelf or burial bed hewn from the wall of a cave, National Geographic reports. Covered by marble cladding since at least 1555 A.D., it was exposed Oct. 26 as part of a major restoration project at the church.

Woman Badly Burned After Farting During Surgery

A patient who passed gas during an operation was badly burned when the fart ignited a laser being used in the surgery, a hospital report states.

The unnamed woman, in her 30s, was undergoing surgery at Tokyo Medical University Hospital which involved a laser being applied to her cervix.

As the surgery was being carried out in the Shinjuku Ward, she broke wind — sparking the fire, Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun reports.

The One Food She Eats Every Day World's Oldest Woman, 116, Reveals

The world’s oldest person, who turns 117 in November, has given us a clue as to how she’s achieved such longevity. 

Emma Morano, 116, of Verbania, Italy, was born in 1899 and will turn 117 on Nov. 29. The supercentenarian claimed the title of world’s oldest person in May after the death of the former titleholder, Susannah Mushatt Jones. 

Speaking to Agence France-Presse in her home, Morano revealed what she eats in a typical day.

“I eat two eggs a day and that’s it,” she said. “I eat cookies.”

New Earthquake Rocks Italy, Flattens Historic Basilica

Italy’s most powerful earthquake in 36 years struck the country’s mountainous center Sunday, panicking shell-shocked residents for the third time in two months and flattening a world-famous, 600-year-old basilica.

Remarkably, there were no reports of anyone dying as a result of the 6.6 magnitude quake, the head of Italy's civil protection agency said.

“As far as people are concerned, the situation is positive, but many buildings are in a critical state in historic centers, and there are problems with electricity and water supplies,” Fabrizio Curcio told reporters.

The quake struck at 7:40 a.m. (0640 GMT) near the small mountain town of Norcia, unleashing a shock felt in Rome and even in Venice, 200 miles away.

It was Italy’s biggest tremor since a 6.9-magnitude quake struck the south of the country in 1980, leaving 3,000 people dead. (AFP)

WASHINGTON – Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman directed her former chief of staff to “dump all those emails” the same day a bombshell report revealed Clinton’s use of a private computer server while US secretary of state, WikiLeaks revealed on Tuesday.

John Podesta sent the message to Cheryl Mills the evening of March 2, 2015, hours after the New York Times reported that Clinton may have violated federal records requirements by using the server, according to the latest batch of Podesta’s hacked emails.

“Not to sound like Lanny, but we are going to have to dump all those emails so better to do so sooner than later,” Podesta told Mills.

Justice Dept. Vows Quick Review Of Clinton Related Emails

WASHINGTON — The FBI will have to sort through thousands of newly discovered emails in its renewed examination of the practices of Hillary Clinton and her aides, a U.S. official said Monday, raising questions about whether any findings might be released before Election Day.

The Justice Department, moving to address concerns over the timing of the revelation of the emails and a potential post-election spillover, said Monday it would “dedicate all necessary resources” to concluding the review promptly.

The timing matters because Donald Trump has been assailing Clinton ever more vigorously since FBI Director James Comey revealed the existence of the emails in a remarkable and ambiguous letter to Congress last Friday. He said agents would take steps to review the messages, which were found on a computer seized during an unrelated investigation involving the estranged husband of a Clinton aide.

CNN Drops Brazile For Feeding Debate Questions To Clinton

WASHINGTON — CNN said Monday it’s “completely uncomfortable” with new leaked emails that Donna Brazile fed debate questions to Hillary Clinton and announced it has accepted her resignation as contributor.

“CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate,” said CNN spokeswoman Lauren Pratapas in an email to The Post.

“We are completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor.”

Brazile’s contract had been suspended in July when she was named interim head of the Democratic National Committee following the ouster of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whose hacked emails also incidentally showed bias toward Clinton over Bernie Sanders.
